2009 Department of Energy Regulations
The DOE recently announced new efficiency standards for linear and U-shape fluorescent lamps, and halogen PAR lamps. The new standard will become effective in the summer of 2012 and will implement lumens per watt (LPW) regulations for linear fluorescent and halogen PAR lamps. It will eliminate nearly all 4-foot T12 lamps, some 4-foot T8 lamps, most 8-foot T12 lamps, and nearly all standard halogen PAR38, PAR30 and PAR20 lamps from the marketplace.*
2008 California Title 20 A-Line Regulations
California requires that all general purpose A19, BTT, and TB (incandescent and halogen) light bulbs manufactured after January 1, 2008, and sold in the State of California, meet or exceed minimum energy reduction guidelines.*
2007 Energy and Independence Security Act
The incandescent A-line regulations primarily affect the common 40W, 60W, 75W and 100W incandescent lamps. It requires an increase in efficiency by approximately 30% starting in 2012 by requiring a reduction in lamp wattage while maintaining lumen levels. In addition, all R20, R30, R40, PAR20, PAR30, PAR38, BR30, BR40, ER30, ER40, and BPAR must meet Halogen efficiency levels. Other provisions contained within the bill include regulations for ballasts used in Metal Halide Fixtures and increased efficiency requirements for federal buildings.*
2005 Energy Policy Act
The 2005 Energy Policy Act regulates and mandates minimum efficiency regulations, incentives and research dollars for lamps, ballasts, fixtures, and LEDs.*
