Investing in renewable energy today for a better tomorrow
?Bell Electrical Contractors was one of the first companies to participate in Ameren UE’s Pure Power Program at the Leader Level—and presently the only electrical contractor to be an Ameren Pure Power Leader.
Pure Power is a voluntary Clean Power program which gives Ameren electric customers the opportunity to support wind farms and other renewable energy facilities in the Midwest. Clean Power is electricity generated by renewable energy that leaves little or no carbon footprint. As a Pure Power Leader, Bell has committed to purchase at least six 1,000 kWh “blocks” of Pure Power per month for $15.00 per block. Ameren then purchases Green-e Energy Certified® Renewable Energy Certificates from renewable energy facilities equal to the number of Pure Power blocks Bell purchases, and electricity from these renewable resources is delivered to the Midwest power pool and retired on Bell’s behalf.
As a Pure Power Leader, Bell is helping to prevent 132,768 pounds of Carbon Dioxide, a leading greenhouse gas, from entering the atmosphere each year. This is equal to the C02 reduction equivalent of protecting 14 acres of forest storing carbon for one year, or taking 13 cars off the road for a year.
Investment and research in new technology are critical steps in making Clean Power an affordable option. Officials at the Department of Energy say the goals are reachable by investing now in new technology and improving old ones. "Twenty-five years from now, the potential in Clean Power is amazing," said David Sandalow, assistant secretary of policy and international affairs at the department of energy.
Clean Power includes not only wind, solar and biomass but natural gas, nuclear and clean coal. Using the current administrations definition of Clean Power, the United States is currently 40 percent clean with a goal of 80 percent by 2035.
